Why isn't there alot of good comic book stores anymore? I have to drive about 50 miles just to get to the nearest comic book store that I know of. About 15 years ago i remember there were 3 or 4 in the city I lived in at that time. When I went back to visit some of my old friends there wasn't any there. Any one else having trouble finding a good store in NC?

If you have not been into comics in a while then I can explain why it's so hard to find a shop anymore.
15 years ago comics were in a boom period with a very large reader base. With so many people wanting comics and with sells so high it was not too hard to open a shop almost anywhere and make a fair bit of money at the same time.
But then things changed. The comic book bubble popped and the people buying comic books as an investment stopped buying comic books. The publishers were also putting out too much product which drove many of the casual fans away. Hard core fans were let down because the quality of art and writting was deluted down by the over flood of titles and many of them left as well.
With few buyers and fewer sells only the biggest and strongest shops could make it so just about all of the smaller shops closed leaving only a hand full of larger shops to sell to the readers left.
With any luck interest in comics will continue to grow and we might see those smaller shops again if people can make a living from it, but until then it's the long trip to a bigger city for most of us.

Thanks for the information. I quit collecting comic books after issue 155 came out. I started collecting again when I saw an article saying that GI Joe was being brought back on yoJoe.com. I looked for a comic book store then but I couldn't find one so I had to order them offline till I just happened to run across a store in Winston-Salem about 6 months ago. Thanks again for all the help and answers.
